Latest Update on New Zealand Skilled Migration

Exciting changes are coming for skilled migrants in New Zealand! Here’s what you need to know:

From March 2025:

Work Experience Requirement: Reduced to 2 years.
Median Wage Requirement: Removed.
Visa Update: Longer 3-year visa for skill level 4-5 ANZSCO roles.
Interim Work Rights: Extended for those applying from work or study visas under the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
Labour Market Test: Now declaration-based. Employers must advertise with the Minister for Social Development (MSD) and demonstrate consideration of New Zealanders for positions first.
Domestic Workforce Threshold: Reduced for labour hire employers in certain construction roles from 35% to 15%.
Income Threshold Adjustment:

The income threshold to support a dependent child under AEWV will increase from NZD 43,322 to NZD 55,844, the first update since 2019.
From July 2025:

Job Check Redesign: Streamlining the Job Check process for low-risk employers to improve processing times.
New Seasonal Visas:

Launching in November 2025, featuring a 3-year multi-entry visa for experienced workers and a 7-month single-entry visa for lesser-skilled workers.
