SEN Students Have Choices: Big Support from International Schools!

SEN provisions in international school

Over 70,000 students in Hong Kong local schools have been diagnosed with a form of Special Educational Needs (SEN).

There is a growing number of students in international schools in Hong Kong who require additional support. Most of these students will have a diagnosis for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder and (ADHD) or a form of intellectual disability.

The most important thing to remember with these students is that it is important they have:

  • Small class sizes
  • Strong parent-school relationship
  • Inclusive learning environment
  • Provisions so they can access mainstream classes including extra support through an educational assistant, speech therapy, occupational therapy, pull-in, pull out classes in English and Mathematics

Some schools which offer inclusive mainstream classes include Anfield School, English Schools Foundation (some schools have Learning Support class LSC provision), Hong Kong Academy, International College Hong Kong, Korean International School and The Harbour School.

Other schools which offer additional support are Jockey Club Sarah Roe School, Ao Pui School, The Children’s Institute of Hong Kong.

Please note that not every school may be able to cater for your child’s needs and it is important that a psycho-educational assessment be completed whilst your child is still young and able to get the right support.
