Last week, our founder Jessica went to Norwegian International School to share with their Y5 and Y6 parents some top tips for secondary school admissions.
We highlighted a few important facts including:
• The importance of well-rounded children, it is not just about the academics, but also the other activities whether that be in sport, the Arts etc.
• Not over preparing them for assessment, as long as they are meeting the developmental milestones as 11 or 12 year olds that is fine
• Not applying to 12 schools and wasting money on application fees, 3 is more than enough
• The relationship between parent and child and how teachers observe this at assessment
We also emphasised that the importance of visiting the school whether through school tours or Open Houses with their children, asking existing parents about the school culture, looking at the schools’ track record – where do their graduates go to university? As well as other considerations such as curriculum, location, cost, language etc.
The top tip of the night was “Don’t panic”, look for a secondary school which is the right school for the family rather than just looking at brand names.
A huge thank you to the school for welcoming us and providing a platform for such an engaging discussion. We hope all the parents found the session informative and valuable as they navigate their children’s educational journeys.
It was wonderful to connect and share insights on international school admissions and the opportunities available for students. Your participation made the event truly special!
We enjoy sharing knowledge and experiences, and look forward to connecting with more school communities in the future, please feel free to reach out.
Stay tuned for more upcoming events and discussions!
