How to apply for a scholarship at international school?

Scholarships are a grant given by a school usually for high achievers or individuals who may be talented in a certain field. i.e. sport, music etc. or for those in need of financial need.

Last weekend, Ms. Carol Wong, Director of Admissions & Marketing, American School Hong Kong (ASHK) shared how you can apply for a scholarship, specifically that all applicants must apply for a place at the school first, then once the assessment has been completed, they can apply for a scholarship. At ASHK, there are opportunities for applicants to apply for 3 categories – merit based, needs based and diversity scholarships. It is important that the student pass the assessment as the admissions team have to be satisfied that the student can access the curriculum, in the case of ASHK, the US curriculum.

We shared the story of ASHK’s graduate Edric who was granted a diversity scholarship. He was valedictorian of his class (Class of 2023) and has now secured a scholarship to study at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Similarly, Juliana, Year 13 scholar from Harrow International School Hong Kong shared her story of how she had to complete the assessment requirements at Harrow before being granted a bursary. She shared of the support she has received throughout her studies and how as a student she feels ready to take the next step to university once her final exams are complete.

Both Ms. Wong and Juliana talked about the importance of having scholarships and how people on scholarships and bursaries have greatly shaped the school community.

We look forward to seeing more scholars enter international school in the future.
