Top tips: Parent Assessment

When your child is going for assessment, it is equally important to remember parents are also being assessed. Here are a few of SEA’s top tips for parents:

• Be prepared to answer questions in relation to the school’s culture, fill in questionnaires about how you can contribute towards the school etc.

• Know your child’s bedtime routines, their favourite toy, their favourite book etc

• Visit the school whether in person or virtually to see what facilities the school has, the extracurricular activities on offer etc.

• Talk to parents of the school, members of the school community to get a sense of what the school is like

• Dress appropriately

• Interact with your child during the interview. For example, do not play with your phone whilst waiting for your child to do the assessment, teachers are watching to see how you interact with your child

• Do not overprepare or give rehearsed answers (parent or child)

• Do give the school the papers they ask for, but do not provide a portfolio of your child’s work, they are looking for the child/parent to act naturally

Remember: The most important thing to is to be yourself
