As we approach May, Grade 12/Year 13 students are busy preparing for their final examinations and making final preparations for applying to universities of their choice. Depending on their course selection, there is a variety of admissions criteria including interviews, admissions tests, short essays, portfolios etc.
Universities are the more traditional path for Grade 12/Year 13 Graduates, but there are other options including:
Foundation programs abroad
For example, students may apply for a foundation course at Murdoch College which will lead to first year at Murdoch University. The only two exceptions are veterinary science and teaching, which require separate entry to those courses. The basic requirement for foundation is IELTS 5.5 and requires completion of Form 5 in Hong Kong or HKDSE total score of 8 points across 5 subjects; or A Levels with 2 ‘E’ grades; or AS Levels with a minimum 3 ‘C’ grades or HKDSE total score of 8 points across 5 subjects; or A Levels with 2 ‘E’ grades; or AS Levels with a minimum 3 ‘C’ grades.

Vocational programs in Hong Kong
Associate degrees in Hong Kong at providers such as HKU space, PolyU HKCC, Lingnan university, Hong Kong Baptist University are options which feed into undergraduate Bachelor programs at Hong Kong universities such as University of Hong Kong, Chinese University Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, City University of Hong Kong etc. Associate degrees have programs in English, Arts & Humanities, Economics and Business, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology and Social Sciences.
Application deadlines for Hong Kong associate degrees
The application deadline for all the associate degrees in Hong Kong is 20 May 2025 (Tuesday).
